Weekly Update, May 15—21. 2023

Last Sunday’s Service Ann Kleinsasser and Vickie Guagliardo (the latter in Choctaw Hayride garb) celebrated their mothers and grandmothers in a lovely Mothers’ Day service. When Vickie dresses up for church, she stops traffic.

Our Next Sunday Service, May 21

Clare Buchanan of Sunland-Tujunga Voices United visits for a preview of Foothill Pride, celebrating its third birthday on June 3. Since you can’t meet a Sister of Perpetual Indulgence at a Dodger game, you’ll just have to visit Sunland Park the first Saturday of June! Clare tells us how the event came together and explains what it means to this area’s LGBTQ+ community and its supporters. Thursday, May 18 The Urban Homeschoolers present their Spring Open House with performances by the student rock band (taught by Christian Nesmith), an improv show, and an interactive demonstration from the Model U.N. The festivities begin at 5:30. If you can’t come to the church for the open house but want to soak up some classic Unitarian Universalist Board of Trustees ambience. Sign in to the monthly board meeting. Contact Paula Hallowell at phallowell@gmail.com for details. The meeting starts at 6. Friday, May 19

Join us for our monthly Third Friday Potluck at noon for the finest in UU potluck etiquette and conversation. Saturday, May 20

We have a very big HUUT this weekend, featuring more than a dozen acts singing, storytelling, and standing up about their complicated relationship with Los Angeles (correction: Newcomer Laura Joy, who just moved here from New York, reports that her relationship with L.A. is still in its honeymoon phase). Join us! HUUTs are huge fun. Our Pal Dan Brodsley

Our former accompanist, Hollywood Dan Brodsley, is now a resident at The Village in Sherman Oaks, an active senior community with lovely grounds and a very nice restaurant. He'd love some visitors to regale during daylight hours. You can ask for him by calling 818-254-8220. Of this photo, Dan says, "You should see the other guy."
