The Week at UUVerdugo: Friendsgiving, Picture Permissions, And L. Cohen

UUVerdugo wishes you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving week and, to prepare you for Thursday, tonight (Monday, November 20), Paula Hallowell et al are hosting a Friendsgiving celebration in Friendship Hall starting at 6. Seats are still available if you'd like to RSVP to Paula (phallowell@gmail.com).

LAST SUNDAY'S SERVICE

Rose Lenehan of LA Tenants Union delivered a talk and slide presentation about the ways tenants in LA County and the state of California can access tools to help them know their rights in the growing eviction crisis, including the handy Tenant Power Toolkit. To be clear, we are aware that landlords also have rights, but tenants are very often unaware of resources available to them.

Here is a video of Ropse's presentation.

THIS SUNDAY'S SERVICE, November 26

Cohen wove a lot of truth into his poetry and songs. We'd love you to join us for this enlightening, relevant, and, at times, poignant presentation.

PHOTO PUBLICATION OPT-OUT

Up for addition to UUVerdugo's Covenant of Right Relations is an entry requiring permission for one's image to be used in any of our publications (newsletter, facebook posts, skywriting, cake decoration, etc.) Our snap-happy culture often runs amok over a polite "Hey, can I post this picture on Instagram?"

So we are asking every photographer or courtroom sketch artist to obtain permission from their subject first AND we will be developing an opt-out list for people who simply never want their pictures to appear in one of our publications. Let's say it's a group shot and a person in that photo can be identified and is on the opt-out list, that photo will either not be published or that person's image will be substantially blurred.

We will provide a formal opt-out list shortly, but feel free to email marty (at) uuverdugo (dot) org to be the first! We will also include opt-out and photo permission requests in occasional announcements as well as new member info.

HUUT ACTUALLY on December 2

Our final HUUT of the year will be our annual celebration of songs and stories about real or fictitious holidays. Already on the roster are Laura Joy, Richard Penn, Tom Bishel, Matt Bunsen, and Heidi Mastrogiovanni, with more to come!
