UUpcoming at UUVerdugo: January 24-28, 2024

As January comes to a close, visit us over the next few days in our cozy gathering place for movies, coyotes, and Biblical icons spanning two Testaments.

LAST SUNDAY'S SERVICE

Everyone needs an affable, data-driven, no-nonsense Cajun in their community, and Simone Williams is that for us. She stopped by for a primer on caring for aging loved ones, negotiating bureaucracies, and self-care in the process. As many of our congregants have first-hand experience with this, a lively and info-filled discussion followed. See Simone's slide presentation in pdf form below

THIS SUNDAY'S SERVICE: January 28, 2024

We have singers, scientists, scholars, psychotherapists, ministers, activists, actors, skeptics, and artists deliver services for us, but I don't think we've had a choreographer until now. We are excited to welcome Rita Alicia-Marques as she talks about exploring the stories of Esther and Mary Magdalene through dance.

TERANGA WEDNESDAY, January 24

For her second installment of her urban wildlife seminar (sponsored by UUVerdugo), Dana Stangel of Teranga Ranch delves a little deeper into the wildlife abundant in our bright, big city amongst the mountains. Please visit the front page of UUVerdugo.org for more information.

MOVIE NIGHT: "The Straight Story," January 25

Our monthly movie night moves to Thursday (because Wednesdays over the next few months are going to be lousy with coyotes) for a wonderful mini-epic of a film by birthday boy David Lynch. "Straight Story" dramatizes the tale of elderly Alvin Straight, who drove across Iowa on a riding mower to reconcile with his brother. Richard Farnsworth, a movie cowboy, was nominated for an Oscar for portraying Straight, and the film is also notable for its director, Lynch, who is not known for linear narratives or heartwarming biographies. This excellent movie also stars Sissy Spacek and Harry Dean Stanton. Please RSVP to marty@uuverdugo for your attendance and choice of (pepperoni or cheese) Costco pizza topping. Suggested donation: five bucks.
