Weekly Update: July 16-22, 2023

Thank you so much for unpeeling yourself from the floor to read UUVerdugo’s weekly update. You are encouraged to hydrate frequently through this short message.

Last Sunday’s Service

Bookended by quotes from the recently-departed Milan Kundera, I spoke about my recent trip to the UU world’s General Assembly in Pittsburgh, the election of Rev. Dr. Sofie Betancourt as UUA president, the continued reframing of the Seven Principles, and the big tent housing the traditional and progressive wings of the UU movement, advocating for a “Wild Middle.”

Next Sunday’s Service, July 23: Spotlight on Making It Happen

We are joined by Making It Happen director Patty Colvin, who shares her own story about living on the streets of Los Angeles and the human services organization she created from that struggle.

Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce Mixer

Thanks to all the UUVerduguenots who joined us for the CV Chamber Mixer in Friendship Hall, catered by our great friends Robyn Simms and Simone Williams with charming entertainment by Pride of Fresno Tom Bishel. Extra special thanks to Vickie Guagliardo and Ann Kleinsasser for essentially bringing cannons to a water pistol fight with their cookies and lemon bars, respectively. Neither dish survived the night. It was a pleasure seeing Friendship Hall packed with people who may not have known what this building was until last Thursday.

THIS FRIDAY, June 21

Third Friday Potluck returns in our spacious and air-conditioned Friendship Hall at high noon.

While there, check out the most recent additions to our book swap table: This beautiful 9-volume set of John Crye’s “Elect Stories.” You may remember Mr. Crye from his recent stem-winding visits as service leader. Fans of fantasy and science fiction will love these stories.
